Today we’re going to talk about a very simple, yet healthy and delicious salad. I know many of you might not think so, but it really is delicious, although it doesn’t look it. Furthermore, it is much more importantly healthy for you.
This salad is comprised of only two simple ingredients. Those are carrots and beet.
Benefits of Beet
Here are several benefits of beet:
- It improves heart health;
- Reduces birth defects;
- Prevents certain cancers;
- Improves liver health;
- Prevents respiratory problems;
- It prevents cataracts;
- Capillary fragility;
- It acts as an aphrodisiac;
- Boosts energy;
- Reduces macular degeneration;
- Prevents strokes;
Beet fiber helps to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides by increasing the level of good cholesterol in your system. If you have an increased level of triglycerides, it drastically increases the risk of heart-related problems. Therefore good cholesterol is a good defense against that. The presence of the nutrient betaine lowers the quantity of homocysteine in the body which is harmful to the blood vessels. So, eating beet helps with the prevention of cardiovascular diseases in multiple ways.
It has been shown that beet is helpful in preventing skin, lung, and colon cancer because it contains the pigment betacyanins.This pigment betacyanin opposes cancerous cell growth. Nitrates that are used in the preservation of meat have been shown to stimulate the production of nitrosamine compounds in the body which can also result in cancer. In order to prevent this, consumption of beet juice inhibits the cell mutations caused by these compounds.Researchers in Hungary have discovered that beet juice and its powdered form also slows down tumor development.
Beet is also a source of vitamin C which helps prevent asthma symptoms. Beta-carotene that is inside beet also helps to prevent lung cancer. Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant that boosts the immune system in several different ways.Besides acting as an antioxidant itself and defending against the effects of free radicals in the body, it stimulates the activity of white blood cells as well, which are the body’s main line of defense against foreign bodies, as well as viral, bacterial, fungal, and protozoan toxins that can result in a multitude of infections and illnesses.
What causes stroke? A deficiency of potassium in the body. And so a potassium-rich beet is recommended to improve the health of your heart for this reason as well. Potassium is called a vasodilator, meaning it relaxes the blood vessels and reduces blood pressure throughout your whole body.When your blood pressure is reduced and the vessels and arteries are no longer contracted, blood clots are far less likely to form, and the plaque that may have built up along the walls of your blood vessels will not accumulate to form additional clots. Clots are what eventually lead to heart attack and stroke.
