Why is bacon bad for you?
- Bacon has a lot of fat;
- Contributes to heart disease and some cancers;
- Has a lot of sodium;
- Is linked to a lower sperm count;
A link between processed meat and higher risks of dying from heart disease or cancer has been found according to a recent study. A compound that could cause cancer, N-nitroso, is what processed meat that contains nitrates, preservatives, are turned into when absorbed by the human body. Also, there is a direct link between consuming cured meats and developing a chronic pulmonary disease.
On the other hand, a lot of sodium puts you at risk for heart disease and high blood pressure. Just one slice of bacon has 190 milligrams of sodium. The daily recommendation for sodium intake is 2300 milligrams. So, if you eat four to five slices of bacon, you would have eaten half of the recommended intake.
Furthermore, when sperm samples from 156 volunteers were analyzed in one study and they were compared to the participants’ food intakes. Consequently, turns out that the ones that ate a lot of processed meat, like bacon, hamburgers and hot dogs, were associated with lower sperm count and morphology.
They are bad simply because more than half of their content is simply fat.
Why is beef bad for you?

- First saturated fat, which has been linked to cancers of the colon and breast as well as to heart disease;
- There are carcinogens formed when meat is cooked;
- A type of iron found in meat, heme iron, may produce compounds that can damage cells, leading to cancer;
